Think before you post

Before you write a comment and post it, don't forget to think. You may want to use WORD to write and edit your comment. If you do so, you will have a chance to re-read your comment before you copy and paste it to the blog. This will give you the opportunity to think again about what you have just written before you actually post it. I also suggest you preview your comment before you publish it.
Think before you post.I am not talking about the way you use your English (though I care about this, too). I am talking about being careful not to hurt other people with your words. Remember: you are responsible for what you post.

TEN! Unit 1: What's in a name?

As with most (if not all) blogs, the last posting is the first you see. Accordingly, this is ths last task you should choose to do.
First, have a look at the other postings (there are video clips, slideshows, music and articles), and then and choose AT LEAST one of them to write your responses and comments on.
Having done that, a few more questions (sorry again, kevjumba):
a. Has this blog been helpful in your learning in any way?
b. Have you had a good time working on it, or have you cursed every single moment you spent (or rather, wasted) on it?
c. How is this blog relevant to what we are studying?
d. Thinking ahead (Unit 2), what must be improved?
e. Ask any other relevant question(s) you may think of.I almost can't wait to read ypur comments and responses... Well, as a matter of fact, I guess I can because I' posting this in July and you will get to do this in September / October, so I should be able to wait, shouldn't I?

"The Name is everything by definition. so what does it mean to make a name for ourselves? and how fitting that the silent shadow urging us to fail is therefore name-less? You cannot point to nameless. Can we even tell the difference?"

"Our history was destroyed during slavery"

Have you ever heard the name "Malcolm X"? Do you know anything about the man behind that name? What kind of a name is that? Why is he called that name?

Wel... These are just a few questions that the name Malcolm X rises. Incidentally, can you think (and post) a few more here?. Malcolm X appeared on television in Chicago on March 17, 1963 and related to those and other questions.

Read some words he said then:

"My father didn't know his last name. My father got his last name from his grandfather and his grandfather got it from his grandfather who got it from the slavemaster. The real names of our people were destroyed during slavery. The last name of my forefathers was taken from them when they were brought to America and made slaves, and then the name of the slavemaster was given, which we refuse, we reject that name today and refuse it. I never acknowledge it whatsoever."

Watch at least the first four minutes of the following video, and then let's hear (or read) what you have to say:

Provided By: kevjumba

This is kevjumba's introduction to this video clip:

"This is another funny blog about race, but this time its specifically about names. Each race has its own type of names given at birth so my friend and i decided to talk about them.
